Bio: Dr. Brenda Nordstrom has been a nurse for over 30 years and has acquired a variety of experiences – from pediatrics to geriatrics and summer camps to a nuclear power plant. In 2017, after discovering a great need for human trafficking education within healthcare, she attended the Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force’s Train the Trainer workshop. However, she found that workshop to be just the beginning of her own education. Dr. Nordstrom chose to focus her doctoral project and research on educating health care professionals about human trafficking. After obtaining her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree through Indiana Wesleyan University, in 2020 she was able to publish her research findings in the Journal of Human Trafficking. Her goal is to not only help raise awareness of human trafficking, but to also educate on how to identify and appropriately respond to trafficked persons using a trauma-informed approach.
