Dr. Johnson started her career as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist after receiving her B.S. from Central Michigan University. As a CTRS, she worked in psychiatric and substance abuse disorder inpatient and day-outpatient programming. She received her Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Rush University in 1995. She has served in clinical, consultative, and operational roles for the last 29 years working in schools, outpatient, assisted living, and skilled nursing facilities. She received her post-professional, Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree from Bay Path University in 2019. She has been an educator in higher education for the past 13 years; teaching leadership, advocacy, management, mental health, clinical reasoning, bioethics, and foundations courses. She owned her own continuing education organization and has trained thousands of therapy professionals on various topics including assessment tools, cognitive assessment and intervention, and documentation. Currently, Dr. Johnson is a professor and admissions coordinator for Southern California University’s OTD program out of Phoenix, Arizona. She is a credentialed surveyor for QUAD A; providing compliance surveys for outpatient rehabilitation clinics. Lastly, Dr. Johnson has served on the Michigan Occupational Therapy Association Executive Committee for the past decade; currently holding the dual role of Leader of the Executive Committee and Co-Director for Membership.
